Why did Manny Pacquiao and his camp have to reach for this immediately after the fight? It reeks of excuses and hurt pride, even if it’s true! After Manny Pacquiao lost a unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather in what will go down as the biggest night in boxing, Pacquaio’s camp suddenly was referring to a shoulder injury he had suffered prior to the fight and that it played a major role in how the fight went down.

Shortly after the conclusion of the Fight of the Century, news broke that Pacquiao suffered a right shoulder injury during a sparring session just a couple weeks ago. During the post-match press conference, trainer Freddie Roach and Pacquiao elaborated on the injury, which might require surgery.
Apparently, the injury was severe enough that Pacquiao considered postponing the fight. Ultimately, he didn’t postpone. And it may have cost him.
When the injury initially occured, Pacquiao got an MRI on his right shoulder, which discovered a tear. Before the fight, Pacquiao’s team hoped he would be able to take a shot to help him through the injury, but the Nevada Athletic Commission wouldn’t let him. According to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, his request was denied because he had already declared that he was healthy for the fight.
The injury itself is likely true, but since it was never publicly mentioned prior to the fight, why make that your first comments at the post fight press conference? If it wasn’t an excuse before then it shouldn’t be now. Manny fought a solid fight and a few times was bringing it best he could, but in the end Floyd was the better, more skillful boxer and Manny should have made sure to focus on giving him his due instead of making sure everyone knew about an alleged injury.
Floyd made sure to take a shot when it was his turn to talk, as he said both his hands were injured and he has been injured before but he always finds a way to win!
