In the midst of the 20th anniversary of The Infamous, Mobb Deep has been doing the most to celebrate their breakthrough album. Prodigy and Havoc have been performing their classics off the album in New York City and beyond. Recently, the Queens duo took their talents overseas to continue the celebration with Tim Westwood. After they reflected on their glory days at the notorious Tunnel parties back in the day, Havoc and Prodigy spit a quick freestyle. Watch the video after the jump!
Mobb Deep hit up the UK and got to sit down with Tim Westwood for another installment of his “Crib Sessions.” Prodigy and Havoc went in depth about the legacy of their second album The Infamous. Their breakthrough body of work has been a staple in New York hip-hop since its release in 1995 and has inspired a slew of aspiring rappers. Mobb Deep reflected on the first time they performed their most memorable track “Shook Ones” at the Tunnel.
“I remember the first time we performed in there at the Tunnel,” told Westwood. “That was amazing that they let us do that.”
While they were on the topic of the wild Tunnel parties (S/o to Flex on the set!), Prodigy explained that the Tunnel always reminded him of the late Chris Lighty. They reflected on his untimely death and shouted out the family. They also detailed how they defined their own sound and reflected on growing up in Queens in the ’90s. After the interview, Mobb Deep spit a quick freestyle over Biggie’s “Goin’ Back 2 Cali.” Watch the interview and the freestyle below. Did they kill it? Let us know in the comments.
