A Florida woman send the text, “Driving drunk woo … I’ll be dead thanks to you,” just minutes before the car crash that ended in the death of one woman. The driver of the car blew threw a red light and crashed her smart car.
The driver is Mila Dago survived the August 2013 crash that killed her friend, and is now awaiting trial.
The night of the crash Dago was struggling with a break up and went out to party in Miami. Over the course of the night Dago sent over 60 text messages to her ex. According to police the texts were ‘bitter and chilling.’
“I’m done you ruined me … you’ll be the death of me,” Dago texted her ex boyfriend.
Dago sent her last text just minutes before she failed to stop at a red light and crashed into a moving pick up truck at 4:44AM, according to police.
The passenger of the car Irina Reinoso, 22 was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck Benjamin Byrum, 51 was unconscious.
Dago was able to walk away from the crash with bruises. According to police, she had more than two times the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving two hours after the crash.
She was arrested in January 2014 for the death of Reinoso and was placed under house arrest after posting $20,000 bond. Dago pleaded not guilty DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and two counts of DUI with damage to a person.
The 24-year-old is waiting for a trail date to be set. A statement made by her defense attorney said, Ms. Dago, who, with her family, prays every day for the young woman who passed and her family, believes it is disrespectful to the young woman’s family to publicly comment,”
The family of the deceased has also filed a civil suit against Dago and the mobile rental company Car2Go.
