It is becoming a well known fact that LaMarcus Aldridge is pretty much done with Portland and is ready to move on to better situations. He shouldn’t take any heat for not wanting to return. He has been there nine years and the team has never really done much. True, a combo of him and Damian Lillard is nice to have, but without disrespecting them there are better duo’s out there. Aldridge is a free agent and appears pretty set on going to the Spurs but he could instead wind up with Cleveland if Kevin Love opts out.

Sources insist — at, yes, this early juncture — that San Antonio sits near or at the top of Aldridge’s list … unless the Cleveland Cavaliers were to lose Kevin Love and then somehow manufacture a way to sign-and-trade for him.

That quote is courtesy of ESPN’s Mark Stein and sounds a lot like what we have been hearing, minus the Cleveland part. Aldridge has never said anything negative about Portland and he seems to love being there, but his time is ticking and he knows it. Being that he is from Texas, the Spurs would be a perfect fit. He would take over Tim Duncan’s spot and be the new block to build on along with Kawhi Leonard moving forward.

Cleveland would be an intriguing destination, and Aldridge could provide some of the floor-spacing Love did next to LeBron James and Kyrie Irving – though Aldridge doesn’t stretch beyond the 3-point arc like Love did. Aldridge also doesn’t pass like Love, and Aldridge is older.

Keeping Love should definitely be the Cavaliers’ preference, though it isn’t just their choice. Love has a player option, and he’s reportedly at least considering leaving Cleveland. Aldridge teaming up with Bron & Kyrie could be vicious for the eastern conference and league as a whole, despite the fact he doesn’t shoot like love.

NBA free agency always makes the summer interesting.
