This year the Met Gala will be a selfie free zone. All guests received their invite to one of the most sophisticated soiree’s of the year with a little something extra. Not a keepsake, but a notice that made each guest personally aware that the use of cellphones will not be permitted.

Last year designer Cynthia Rowley snuck a Go Pro camera in a purse. Throughout the night she recorded the event, unbeknown to Vogue staff. Since the video has gone viral there has been no comment from Vouge, as to be expected. Instead their reaction is simply in the efforts to eliminate all cell phone use. The notice says, “The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala.” In attempts to keep this event sacred, privacy must be enforced. This recent change could also be due to Vouge’s new documentary on this years Met Gala, China: Through the Looking Glass. As a person who lives vicariously through the celebs via Instagram, a huge element of The Met Gala has been taken away from the public. Our tech guy, Tat might feel a little different about the change in technology protocol.

How will selfie addicted celebrities, like Kim Kardashian West adjust to not being able to capture every moment and what will be the consequence of breaking the rules? I can’t imagine they would escort Kim K out for taking a picture of her and Yezzy’s place card.

Speculation is out that the ban is in effect not only to keep the event as exclusive as possible, but also allow Vouge to have editorial control over photos.
