One of the most iconic comedians has changed gears; instead of making the world cry from laughing so hard, he appealed to a more emotional side. He shared an intimate story about one of the proudest moments he’s had in all his life. Check out the video after the jump.
It hasn’t been a smooth ride for D.L. Hughley. On an episode of Oprah: Where are they now? Hughley explains his journey. He’s been trying to pick up the pieces of his marriage; a marriage that he admittedly sabotaged by cheating. Since 2008 he’s been mourning the loss of longtime friend Bernie Mac. Now, D.L opens up about one of his biggest battles, his son,Kyle having Aspergers Syndrome. Aspergers Syndrome, also referred to as “AD” is a developmental disorder affecting ability to effectively socialize and communicate. His son was diagnosed as a child and is now 26 yeas old and a college graduate.
Hughley explains how his son struggles with the need for routine. “Everything has to be the same. He goes to work at the same time, he eats the same thing” said Hughley about his 26 year old son. He tells the story of how his son got gas for the family car; an average choir that so many take for granted. But for a person with an illness that depends on routine so heavily, Kyle wasn’t simply just buying gas, he was taking a leap of faith.
