It’s been six years since the untimely death of Las Vegas resident DJ, and Mash-up King, DJ AM. A documentary was made highlighting the life and times of the rockstar DJ, which debuted last week at the Tribeca Film Festival. Billboard reviewed the film and gave it 4 stars. Kevin Kerslake wrote and directed the film, making sure to include appearances by DJ AM’s contemporaries such as Mark Ronson, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Travis Barker, Steve Aoki, Diplo, and A-Trak.
Adam Goldstein, also known as DJ AM battled drug addiction at an early age. Although he was very succesful as a DJ, earning a seven figure income, his battle with drugs ultimately ended his life in 2009. Known for popularizing the mash-up style, he was actually one of the first million dollar DJs in the US. He worked on albums with people like Will Smith, Travis Barker, and Madonna. He even played at concerts with Jay-Z; but his successes were often overshadowed by his demons. It wasn’t until his death that his work received the level of acclaim it deserved. Check out this clip where Jay-Z talks about working with Adam immediately after a terrible plane crash.
