A$AP Rocky is definitely one of the top hip-hop artists of 2015. The leader of the A$AP Mob is set to release his highly-anticipated, sophomore album and star in his first feature film this summer. With the great amount of work finally being released by the Harlem spitter, it’s only right for him to want to speak about what inspired it all. Rocky opened up about working on his new album, the popular artists in the game who inspire him and what he thinks about hip-hop today with Elliott Wilson in CRWN. Watch the interview after the jump!
A$AP Rocky sat down with Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson to talk about everything he’s got going on this year. The newest installment of CRWN presented by WatchLOUD took place at Spring Studios during the Tribeca Film Festival last week. During the exclusive interview, Rocky spoke about his upcoming album At. Long. Last. A$AP and what went into creating his second studio effort. He claimed that he was inspired by Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown, Earl Sweatshirt, and Joey Bada$$. The “Pretty Flacko” emcee explained how he collaborated with producer Dangermouse on the album and Memphis rapper Juicy J on their collaborative single “Multiply.” Rocky also expressed his feelings about the hype surrounding hip-hop today.
“Rap is the new wrestling,” said the Harlem rapper. “Make up a weird ass name, just come out saying some outlandish crazy dumb shit, and everybody’s gonna pay attention.”
I’m not sure if wrestling would be the right sport to compare it to, but to each his own. The A$AP mob boss also spoke on his love for psychedelic drugs like shrooms and other hallucinogens. Rocky’s energy and excitement for his sophomore album is felt throughout the first part of the interview. You can catch the interview in full below. Look out for part two of CRWN to drop tomorrow.
