English teacher Brianne Altice pleads guilty to three counts of forced sexual abuse, one boy was 16 years old while the other two were 17 years of age at the time. Altice was first arrested in October of 2013 when an investigation revealed that the teacher apparently had an intimate relationship with a student that was 15 years old at the time. Two more boys later came out forward with the same allegations.
Brianne Altice took a plea deal on Wednesday, where in exchange prosecutors would drop 11 other counts including a few first degree felonies. Utah Law says that a person cannot consent to sex if the other person is in a position of Special Trust, which refers to a situation where one person holds a position of authority over another person using that position to their advantage to commit a crime.
Altice was out on bail during most of the proceedings until the third victim came forward in where she had gotten arrested once again. According to the Daily News, defense attorney Ed Brass states “What changed things was the judge’s ruling that each case should be heard separately and each case would be considered on its own merits without reference to the other cases”. She will be sentenced 1 to 15 years for each count in prison…. YIKES!!! looks like she will be facing quite some time behind bars.
The former english teacher was hired by the Davis County School District in 2004. She was placed on a leave when the accusations started to submerge and was then fired in February of 2014.
Altice is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28,2015.
