Life at the top must get crazy at times with everyone coming at you and your pockets. Over the last year though, Dr. Dre has been battling with his old label home, Death Row Records, over profits from distribution of the classic album The Chronic.
Behind Dre’s back, Death Row Records has been profiting off of The Chronic by producing digital compilations and tracks from the album with less successful songs from the label. Death Row will probably continue to make those digital compilations, but a District Judge ruled that Dre is to receive 100% of the earnings from the sales. I guess their run was nice while it lasted? This is just one hurdle the Beats By Dre face has overcome as the battle with Death Row Records has been going on for some time now.
Dr Dre’s lawyer spoke on the ruling, “For years, Death Row forgot about Dre when they continued to distrubte his music digitally and combined his hits with weaker Death Row tracks…Death Row has not right to engage in such tactics, and must hold all proceeds from these illicit distributions in trust for our client.” Y’all see what he did there with that forgot about Dre bar?? Good for Dre though, getting what’s his! This trend of labels getting over on artist does not seem to be taking a back seat just yet.
Whats good with all the labels playing with the artist’s bread (Cash Money we see y’all)?? This has to be one reason why the Indie route is getting so popular.
