Personally I’ve been saying for a while now that the Oklahoma City Thunder should move on from coach Scott Brooks and now it appears the team reportedly feels the same way. If they do decide to part ways with Brooks who will be his replacement? A major factor in the decision will be pleasing Kevin Durant who will become a free agent in 2016, and for that reason, UConn coach Kevin Ollie is reportedly being considered for the job.
According to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv, UConn coach Kevin Ollie is being “seriously considered” for the OKC coaching job says a source close to the situation.
Durant still speaks highly of Ollie, who played with Durant on the 2009-10 Thunder.
But on the other hand, Ollie hasn’t coached in the NBA and the Thunder have a one-year window to make something big happen to convince Durant to stay.
Ollie’s star has faded since last season, when he led UConn to an NCAA championship and received plenty of NBA interest. The Huskies missed the NCAA tournament this year, and Ollie’s contract extension reportedly carries a $5 million buyout.
If Durant truly wants Ollie as the coach then I’m sure OKC will have no problem paying for the buyout.
