It looks like Toronto Raptors GM Masai Ujiri is going to make this a playoff tradition. Last year he said “f*ck Brooklyn” during the Raptors fan rally before game 1 against the Nets. He was subsequently fined $25,000 and later apologized. This year ahead of the Wizards playoff game against the Raptors, Paul Pierce said the team “don’t have the ‘It’ that makes you feel worried.” Masai responded to Pierce’s comments by saying, “We don’t give a s— about it.” So what happened? You guessed it, he was fined and apologized yet again.
The league fined Masai Ujiri $35,000 and the Raptors organization an additional $25,000, it was announced in a press release Sunday:
Toronto Raptors General Manager Masai Ujiri fined $35,000 for using obscene language in a public setting on Saturday, April 18 prior to the Raptors’ playoff game against the Washington Wizards, it was announced today by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. In addition, the Toronto Raptors organization has been fined $25,000.
The Wizards beat the Raptors 93-86 in overtime taking game 1 of the playoff series in Toronto. The catalyst was none other than Paul Pierce himself with a game-high 20 points. The Raptors starting lineup all scored in single digits except for DeMar DeRozan who put up 15 points along with 11 rebounds.
