Yet another reason to BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU POST ONLINE!!! A Virginia Woman Arrested for Gun Toting “Facebook Thugging” Pic was sought out and scooped up after taking a gun toting selfie and captioning what police felt was enough of a “threat” to be charged with a fine and* jail time (SMH)!
All is fair on the interweb–everything you ever post is not only live and public, but can be documented forever. Breaking the law in that case leaves you extra open to handcuffs on the wrist, just ask Kristin Holmes age 26 who is the Woman Arrested for Gun Toting “Facebook Thugging” Pic. Vlad TV reports on the young woman who was apparently mistaken for someone else during a Facebook feud (SMH).
The Woman Arrested for Gun Toting “Facebook Thugging” Pic now faces a $2,500 fine and one year in jail on the charge of harrassment for what police feel is illegal to say in person therefore illegal online (ouch!). Her original caption was “I’ll post a few actual pics of me so you know the difference when you ‘come find me.” (Yikes). She had this to say following the verdict–then Kevin Carroll of the Fraternal Order of Police–who believes the punishment is justified–had this to say on behalf of team #Clapback:
Woman: “It wasn’t a threat. I thought it was a funny picture, and then I realized later that it was a little bit intimidating. So I took it down. What happened to freedom of speech? Be careful what you put on the internet, because you can go to jail for it. Facebook thugging is a crime.”
Kevin Carroll: “There is no such thing as a petty crime. If it’s against the law to say it in public..why wouldn’t it be against the law to say it to someone through a computer?”
…mmm, how you feel on those points, #valid both ways or nah??? Woman Arrested for Gun Toting “Facebook Thugging” Pic echoes a lot*** of examples before her, like the gun toting selfie by the ex-NYPD officer that started the #BlackBrunch hashtag, the young men who got arrested for their stolen iPad selfie, the teens busted for bragging about a robbery on Facebook, and on the extreme, the Penn state frat’s naked women Facebook scandal. Agree or not, apparently “You must learn…”
