Charles Barkley is known as one of the players with the biggest mouthes ever in the NBA.  Barkley always speaks his mind and has always been a very confident person.  He’s also honest and has gained some humility.  Barkley did an interview with Grantland’s Bill Simmons while in Austin, Texas for SXSW and revealed a lot of interesting thoughts and insights.

As a member of the Phoenix Suns, he said we’re going to Finals; “Ain’t nobody out here better than me.”

One night, he was talking to his daughter before matching up against the Chicago Bulls in Game 2 of the 1993 NBA Finals.

“She says, ‘Dad you’ve never lied to me’, said Barkley, recounting the conversation. “I said, ‘No’. She says, ‘You’re gonna win tonight right?'”

Barkley replied: “We’re going to win and we’re going to win this series.”

Barkley did his part, scoring 42 points to go along with 13 rebounds, but Jordan matched him, scoring 42 of his own as Chicago won 111-108 to take a 2-0 series lead.

“I remember going home that night and she was crying,” Barkley said, referring to his daughter. “She said, ‘Dad what happened?’. I said, ‘This guy might be better than me’. I’d never played against a guy I thought was better than me.”

The Bulls went on to win the series 4-2 and capture their third-straight championship before Jordan retired for the first time.
