Feds Charge Student for Noose on Statue

More news in the “the more things change, the more they stay the same” category: The Justice Department is bringing down Federal Charges Against Ole Miss Student For Noose Put On Black Statue–which they conclude was done to intimidate African American students and faculty. The James Meredith statue was found with a noose around its neck and a Confederate flag on its back…

Last week a Mississippi man was literally found hanging from a tree, and this week comes a little closure for a “symbolic” hanging. The Federal Charges Against Ole Miss Student For Noose Put On Black Statue are for the defamation of the school’s tribute to James Meredith, the first black student the university ever had. Authorities call technical foul and say the move was a “flagrant” attempt to threaten black students and faculty.

Graeme Phillip Harris is the identified individual that’s facing Federal Charges Against Ole Miss Student For Noose Put On Black Statue though he acted in a group. The Washington Post reports he’s been “indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of conspiring to violate civil rights and another count of using a threat of force to intimidate African American students due to their race.” Attorney General Eric Holder had this to say in a statement:

“This shameful and ignorant act is an insult to all Americans and a violation of our most strongly-held values. No one should ever be made to feel threatened or intimidated because of what they look like or who they are. By taking appropriate action to hold wrongdoers accountable, the Department of Justice is sending a clear message that flagrant infringements of our historic civil rights will not go unnoticed or unpunished.”

It’s been about a year to get to Federal Charges Against Ole Miss Student For Noose Put On Black Statue, though this is the first indictment there were three white freshman thought to be implicated that were expelled by the school’s Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity before the entire fraternity was suspended. Seems to be a lot of foul play exposing fraternities these days, between the SAE racist chant fall out and the current Penn state Facebook scandal. The FBI and the University of Mississippi Police Department are continuing the Jame Meredith statue investigation.
