Kobe Bryant is out for the season with a torn rotator cuff. Somehow, Bryant – who hasn’t played since Jan. 21 – STILL leads the Lakers in shots attempted this season.
According to Sporting News Bryant has attempted 713 shots this season, which is 10 more than Carlos Boozer. The shocking fact there is that Boozer has played in 66 games whereas Bryant only played in 35. Jordan Hill is third with 702 shots, playing in 63 games.
Lakers have dealt with injuries aside from Bryant, including Nick Young who has been sidelined all of March and some of February. Surely if he were on the court he would come close or surpass Bryant’s shot attempts.
Outside of Bryant, Boozer and Hill, no other Laker has reached 600 shot attempts. There are seven Lakers who have played in 56 games (21 more than Bryant) or more this season, but still haven’t reached Bryant’s total.
Another interesting aspect of this statstic is that Bryant doesn’t lead the team in field goals made. Boozer leads the team in that category, making 357 compared to Bryant’s 266. Hill is in second with 326.
The Lakers currently have a 19-51 record with the 14th spot in the Western Conference. They have to land a top-five pick in the 2015 NBA Draft or their pick goes to the Phoenix Suns due to the Steve Nash trade (the gift that keeps on giving).
