There’s one discussion in the NBA that will always start a heated debate; Who’s the best point guard in the league? You can’t go solely off statistics and your favor in style of play can vary so the discussion will always go in different directions. ESPN asked a group of 25 players, coaches and executives to rank the NBA’s top point guards, 1-30. Here’s the top three.
The leaders via ESPN (h/t ProBasketballTalk):
1. Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder (732 points, 13 first-place votes)
“He might be an alien. I’ve never seen anyone like him before. His athleticism and antics are off the charts.” — NBA executive
2. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors (727 points, 9 first-place votes)
“Maybe the best shooter we’ve ever seen in the NBA off the dribble. Probably the leading candidate for MVP this year.” — NBA executive
3. Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers (652 points, 3 first-place votes)
“Everything you could ever want from a point guard. Leads, scores and defends and knows exactly when to do each of those things.” — NBA executive
Of course there’s hundreds of players, coaches and executives in the NBA so this is a very small sample of their thinking but the top three seems fairly accurate although the order could vary.
