On Wednesday night on the court, the Boston Celtics got one of their biggest wins of the season, a 95-92 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies that keeps Boston in the Eastern Conference playoff race.  Off the court, things were much uglier at the TD Garden as an altercation took place.

Police responded to TD Garden tonight after a man was stabbed during the Boston Celtics game.

The victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to David Estrada, a spokesman for Boston police.

Tricia McCorkle, a spokeswoman for TD Garden, said in a statement, “I can confirm there was an altercation and a person was transferred” to a hospital.

If the victim was stabbed with a knife smuggled past security, this could lead to widespread changes in how fans enter NBA arenas. More invasive searches might not be the right answer, but they could still be coming. That’s usually what happens when there’s a publicized incident like this.

UPDATE:

via SportsGrid:

At around the 20-second mark, the man in the white Rajon Rondo jersey facing the camera very clearly whips out a switchblade and goes after the green jersey’d Rondo. Someone standing next to him is then punched by a guy standing in aisle, which causes fists to fly and people to run. Green Rondo sticks around, at which point he is stabbed by the white Rondo guy (30-second mark).

His friends can be seen attending to him for the rest of the video.
