Wait, what?…wait…what??? Yes, in a controversial decision the Feds Approve and Legalize Powdered Alcohol and now leave it up to states to decide further. But what’s so controversial about this…substance? And would you try it???
It’s called “Palcohol,” yes, Palcohol, and it’s gotten the official green light to be sold on these streets from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. While it’s creators at the Lipsmark company (whoa, that name) are obviously hype, many are outraged that the Feds Approve and Legalize Powdered Alcohol even though it’s still subject to state regulations. CNN Money reports six states have already prohibited and taken actions against it, including Louisiana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and Alaska. If you’re wondering where the great state of New York falls with the Feds Approve and Legalize Powdered Alcohol, Senator Charles Schumer has already spoke our peace:
Senator Charles Schumer from New York on Thursday introduced a bill against powdered alcohol. “I am in total disbelief that our federal government has approved such an obviously dangerous product,” said Schumer, in a statement. “Congress must take matters into its own hands and make powered alcohol illegal.”
As far as the safety issue of being out on the shelves, creator Mark Phillips had this to say:
“Phillips said that, contrary to popular opinion, it’s not easy for kids to get a hold of it. It will be sold to customers over 21 years of age. He also said that it’s not easy to surreptitiously spike drinks with it, because it takes too long to dissolve to be able to do something like that secretly.”
Apparently Schumer was extra salty about the Feds decision because of statements made on the Lipsmark company’s website that have since been removed, including their idea to “illegally sneak the substance into stadium events to avoid overpriced drinks.” The worst of it, and you were probably wondering this the whole time–the company also said in the past “Palcohol could be snorted to get drunk almost instantly.” Yikes!!!
…Could the Feds Approve and Legalize Powdered Alcohol be alcohol’s revenge against marijuana–which is quickly becoming America’s spotlight drug not to mention racking up millions of dollars in tax revenues–enough to boost people’s refunds in some cases. But back to the topic–most of the recipes are “just add water” and come in everything from ‘Vodka’ and ‘Rum’ to ‘Kamikaze’ and ‘Cosmopolitan.’ Of course people are almost guaranteed to start ingesting it in other ways even if they’re not supposed to. Can you imagine your neighborhood dealer with this…the clubs, celebrity endorsements, young kids talking bout ‘got that Palcohol’ etc…What road are we going down with this???
