2015 so far seems to be the year of the united front. Joining a host of celebrities to speak some positive into a situation cutting down our communities left and right–Snoop Dogg, Jhene Aiko and More Star in PSA Against Gun Violence!
Can’t help but notice as Snoop Dogg, Jhene Aiko and More Star in PSA Against Gun Violence there’s definitely a shift in the air of moral responsibility. More and more stars are taking a stand across wrongs of all kinds, while some argue celebrities shouldn’t speak on politics or try to be role models, this actually has a great influence on society. This week’s Oklahama State and SAE fraternity racist chant situation put a national spotlight on a toxic reality (that could just be the tip of the iceberg or the one that ‘got caught’ out of many frats etc. engaging in the same kind of behavior). Out of that came the direct response from Waka Flocka, seemingly also on behalf of the Hip Hop community who canceled an upcoming show at the university and declared his part in having zero tolerance for discrimination of any race:
“SMFH.. I know for a fact the whole school and SAE don’t agree with those kids actions so know that I’m not madd at the whole #SAE just those disgusting kids!!!!!!,” Waka posts to IG. “#WFF We can’t change history but we damn sure can create our own future #DeathToRacism,” he adds.
…Preach on that! Now another issue that’s not only rampant but directly affecting black and brown communities at escalated numbers takes front and center as Snoop Dogg, Jhene Aiko and More Star in PSA Against Gun Violence. As for the PSA itself–it’s definitely upped the ante on how to address social issues. This Is 50 reports the campaign is going at people’s wallets–not by asking them to spend, but by asking them NOT to spend:
Artists like Snoop Dogg, Jhené Aiko , Aloe Blacc and more feature in a newly published public service announcement who want individuals with 401K plans to divest from the gun industry. The campaign, titled “#ImUnloading,” is a partnership between Unload Your 401K and the No Guns Allowed anti-gun violence movement.
While Snoop Dogg, Jhene Aiko and More Star in PSA Against Gun Violence keep in mind they’re also busy being booked.* Jhene recently appeared on Snoop’s GGN show, as well she just released the “Chains Remix” with Nick Jonas and is prepping to join J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Tour. Far as the OG Lion, just last week came the announcement of his confirmed Las Vegas residency as well as joining the cast of guest Hip Hop homies for the upcoming Justin Bieber roast. And of course he’s got all hands on deck for the Pharrell produced BUSH album! Obviously being about your business, being a Hip Hop legend, cashing in on being an iconic celebrity and standing up for what’s right can and do go together.
