“There will never be a n*gger SAE!” Now that I have your attention. These were the words spewed from the mouths of a busload of University of Oklahoma SAE male members. The Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity felt the need to shout the racist hymn, but they didn’t expect the ritual – what I assume it to be – to be caught on tape. “You can hang ‘em from a tree, but they’ll never [inaudible] with me,” continued the chant.

Following the video’s upload by Unheard – which describes itself as “an alliance of black students organized for change within campus administration and atmosphere” – the university’s President, David Boren as well as the National President of SAE, Brad Cohen, also took to Twitter to post a statement. “I know I speak for all when I say I’m disgusted and shocked by the video,” Cohen tweets.

Since the widespread of the disturbing video, students partook in a prayer vigil, which was held Sunday night, the other students of OU showed their support with a planned demonstration and the frat house was vandalized overnight, defaced with graffiti. And yes, its safe to say that the University of Oklahoma SAE fraternity has been shut down. “The chapter has immediately been placed on a cease & desist,” says Cohen.
Chelsea Davis, one of two co-directors of Unheard, said the video was recorded during the weekend. Unheard was started at the beginning of the semester to demand change, especially relating to diversity issues, Davis said.
“Clearly in that video, that is nothing new. That is nothing that just sparks up overnight. That is a chant that was well-known, well-versed, and seemed to be OK with everybody that was involved,” said Davis, a junior at the university.
When will it end?
