San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick struggled greatly last season and now during NFL free agency, rumors arise that the young QB is on the trade block.  Here’s what the 49ers had to say about that.

General manager Trent Baalke strongly denied a report late Sunday night that the 49ers are seeking to trade quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“Colin is our quarterback and we are excited to have him,” Baalke said in a statement. “He is not going anywhere. The media reports suggesting otherwise are without merit and, quite frankly, ridiculous.”

Jayson Braddock of KBME radio in Houston reported the 49ers have put Kaepernick on the trade block and they’re taking offers for the four-year veteran. The Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears have inquired about a trade, according to the report.

Kaepernick is the only quarterback the 49ers have on their roster. Blaine Gabbert, who served as the backup last season, and Josh Johnson are scheduled for free agency. The 49ers have shown interest in free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer, a league source confirmed.

The 49ers denial obviously doesn’t mean the rumor isn’t true; this is the same team that hugely denied coach John Harbaugh was out the door and he’s now the coach of the Michigan Wolverines.  It’s also a probability that they’re telling the truth as they don’t have any other options at quarterback right now, BUT they could be seeing what’s out there.
