Young Guru Says Jay-Z’s Different Because He Tells the Truth during a recent sit down as guest speaker for an “Arts at MIT” event, the legendary and highly decorated producer faced a crowd of university students and addressed more than a few topics!
Young Guru Says Jay-Z’s Different Because He Tells the Truth during his “Design and Destruction” lecture at Massachusetts Institute of Technology–one of the top school’s in the country. The lecture was about “how technology and design create and reinvent opportunities in the music industry in efforts to spark engaging dialogue between leaders in hip-hop, students and professors.”–Definitely interesting…the producer who’s also worked with Beyonce, Fabolous, Talib Kweli, Mariah Carey and more had this to say:
“A lot of rappers lie,” he told the moderator. He said that Jay’s early work was special because it had “a lot of really good drug dealer talk,” but it “comes from a really honest place.”
If you’ve followed insider stories and documentaries around Jay’s music or career you’ve probably heard this before. But Guru also turned up* a notch by serving up some (alleged or valid?) real talk, going at a few necks right quick in the process:
Guru threw some mild shade at other rappers, calling out Jadakiss specifically for his line “I need the scale they weigh the whales with” [sic]. “No you don’t,” he said to the absent Jada. “You don’t have that much cocaine.”
(Yikes). Young Guru Says Jay-Z’s Different Because He Tells the Truth is the latest in a string of informative dish sessions by the legendary producer. He’s been know to talk on race and Hip Hop culture, production behind-the-scenes, and he was also an insider for the test run of the Google Glass experience. This is also the latest in the Hip Hop–university experience since Lil B at Carnegie Mellon and Kanye at Oxford.
