It appears that U.S. Ambassador for South Korea, Mark Lippert got more than he bargained for when attending a breakfast in Seoul, Korea on Thursday morning. According to news reports,U.S. Ambassador to South Korea hospitalized after knife-wielding man attacks him in bloody scene. See details and watch footage inside.
U.S. Ambassador Mark Lippert had a near death experience tonight (this morning in Korea), as he was attacked at 7:40 am local time, while attending a lecture and sitting down for breakfast. According to reports, 55 year old assailant Kim Ki-jong attacked the ambassador who was scheduled to speak, and shook the U.S. official up pretty badly as Kim slashed Rippert’s right cheek and left wrist. Prior to the incident occurring, witnesses heard someone yell out, ‘North Korea and South Korea should be unified’ and ‘No to war training!’ Presumably this was attacker Kim, who is reportedly said to be apart of the Pro-Korean Reunification Group, who actually hosted the breakfast.
Daily Mail reports….
” Kim reportedly voiced opposition to the the annual joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises which started Monday. The attack comes just days after North Korea fired missiles into the Sea of Japan in response to the drills.
South Korean intelligence revealed to Yohap the fact that Kim traveled North Korea six times between 2006 and 2007 and in 2011, tried to get a memorial erected to the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il in the middle of Seoul.
It appears this isn’t the first time Kim has attacked a foreign official. Yonhap reports that Kim was sentenced to two years in prison in July 2010 for hurling a slab of concrete at the Japanese ambassador.
The attack has drawn questions about whether Kim acted alone, or was part of a larger conspiracy hatched perhaps by rival North Korea.”
