With all the bad thoughts, stereotypes and bad news you usually hear around prisons here’s some positive attention on those behind the wall. Inmates Save Correctional Officer From Rape at Rikers and prove chivalry’s not dead among other truths.
All prisoners are not the same. Inmates Save Correctional Officer From Rape at Rikers during a bold attempt to capture and assault a female officer at the Anna M. Kross facility according to the New York Daily News. It all started when Raleek Young somehow locked the officer in a closed off room and blocked her from the security exit. Trying to stop him was not so simple however and the Inmates Save Correctional Officer From Rape at Rikers definitely went above and beyond, ultimately tearing through Plexiglass to complete the rescue:
“A skinny inmate slipped inside the so-called “A station” bubble through the small crack and opened the security door. A team of inmates then took down the assailant, Raleek Young, 27, until other officers arrived. During the attack, Young, who is 5-foot-9 and weighs 290 pounds, pulled down his pants and began masturbating while choking the officer, court records show…The criminal complaint says Young ripped off the correction officer’s sweater and “placed his lips on her mouth and about her face.”
Wow…Inmates Save Correctional Officer From Rape at Rikers and the Correction Department spokeswoman Eve Kessler stated the incident was “under investigation” (but also caught on tape!). Correctional officers all over Rikers refused to take their posts in protest of what they felt was a lack of accountability for their safety when Young was initially only charged with “use of force.”
The Correction Officers Benevolent Association President Norman Seabrook came to the facility to persuade the officers personally to get back to work, though he would let the Bronx DA know this was unacceptable. President Seabrook admits “the situation could have been a lot worse if it was not for the inmates’ assistance.”
“I appreciate (them) helping a sister officer because that could have been their mother, wife or sister,” Seabrook said, noting 90% of the inmates “are there to do their time and go home.”
The female officer was taken to the hospital following the attack. Raleek Young was according to court records serving a five-to-10-year sentence for raping a 13-year-old girl in 2007 (SMH)–but now also faces attempted rape, sexual abuse, forcible touching, assault and harassment charges since being arraigned Monday in Bronx Criminal Court.
