Kelly Osbourne, 30, quit ‘Fashion Police’ right after she threatened she would leave the show over a scandal involving co-host Giuliana Rancic and Disney star Zendaya. E! Network said in a statement, “Kelly Osbourne is departing E!’s ‘Fashion Police’ to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years. ‘Fashion Police’ will return, as scheduled, on Friday, March 30th at 9 p.m. and no decisions have been made on her replacement.” The show’s producers had expected Osbourne to leave amid a “power struggle” created by the death of Joan Rivers last September. Melissa Rivers, Joan Rivers daughter and the show’s executive producer, said in a statement that she will miss Osbourne but she will keep the show going. She says, “As my mother always said, the show must go on and I plan to continue in the same spirit.” A source at “Fashion Police” said that Osbourne got involved into a shouting match with Rivers’ replacement Kathy Griffin, saying that Griffin wasn’t living up to the standard set by Joan.
Osbourne had also expressed her disapproval of Rancic for joking about Zendaya, who wore dreadlocks on the Oscars red carpet. She said that she smelled like “patchouli oil and weed” during their post-Oscars show on Monday. She went to Twitter the next day and said she was “seriously questioning staying on the show.” She then went on to say, “I’m giving everyone involved 24 hours to make it right or the world will hear how I really feel.” Rancic apologized for her comments towards Zendaya and Osbourne tweeted her appreciation that the two had made up. The scandal may have been a main deciding factor for Osbourne to quit the show.
