NYC TGI Friday’s Faced With A $5 million Dollar Lawsuit. According to the New York Daily News the dark skinned employees at NYC TGI Friday’s claim they were replaced with light-skinned workers. Each of the former employees are looking for 500,000 each because of emotional distress,lost wages and punitive damages. The grand total is 5 million dollars. Yikes! More info after the jump.

The TGI Friday’s Family owned restaurant’s defense is that majority of its workers including managers are non-white 80% to be exact.It seems like this isn’t an issue of race it’s more of an issue of where one falls on the color spectrum. I’m really over this dark vs light talk and it’s not just a black and white thing it’s everywhere.

I lived in South America for some time and I witnessed it in the Spanish/Latino population as well. Some of them identified as “white Latin” or Black. In a world that is browning it’s unfortunate that these issues are still prominent. What’s sad about this particular incident is that it may be true. There has always been this stigma that light skinned people are considered more attractive/better.People all over the world are using products to lighten their skin to look “one step/shade closer” I think media has played a huge part in this issue as well.

The employees suing had this to say

“It was their opinion that black people were lazy,” Lisa Baker, 48, a waitress, who spoke to the newspaper, said. “We weren’t even given a chance.” “They knew exactly what they were doing,” said plaintiff Tony Pringle, 42, told the New York Daily News and who lost his $850 a week position as a waiter. “They were basically not hiring blacks.”

We should all Listen To Michael Jackson Black or White and just get passed it. I’m just saying we have terrorist who want to destroy Americans we have to stop fighting each other.What are your thoughts? Should TGI Friday’s dish out 5 million dollars? Is this a fair punishment?
