Well, well, well. How many days can we go without a viral clip of people in positions of power recklessly spewing racist comments??? Apparently not too many as Kristi Capel of FOX News 8 in Cleveland, Ohio has quickly learned the error of public ignorance. The inter-web is in a bunch of feels about her derogatory reference of–ironically–Lady GaGa’s choice of sounds, and post-apology is still not getting off easy. Twitter Rips News Anchor Apology for #JigabooMusic Comment!
Lady GaGa finished an impeccable job “singing her face off” at last night’s Oscar’s doing a tribute to Julie Andrews and The Sound of Music. Her performance was startling also because the stage show was not looking, or to many even sounding like her usual Pop Art-grunge glam-piano dungeon-eccentric-dance-fevered self. But still, why would anyone need to comment on any style shift with a reference that was used to belittle and downgrade black people, harken slavery, Jim Crow, and minstrel culture???? Well somebody did, and after a major FAIL at complimenting the pop megastar during a live news broadcast, Twitter Rips News Anchor Apology for #JigabooMusic Comment which many say is at the bullsh*t–no saving stage.
“‘It was hard to hear GaGa’s voice over all that/with all the jigaboo music.’ GaGa was singing with a predominately black choir backing her.” –@StephBMore
Watching the footage that lead to Twitter Rips News Anchor Apology for #JigabooMusic Comment, some note seeing “a little doubt enter her eyes” on first utterance (LOL)–and YES she said it TWICE. Others note the black news anchor who’s sitting next to her as it all goes down. Some point out, who is she or anyone in the first place to be validating GaGa’s performance at all? (TRUUUUE). And of course, Black Twitter and the rainbow of social media is having a field day:
“I need 3/5 of an apology over the #JigabooMusic bs” –@slug863
“@Kristi_Capel you have reached peak levels of caucasity.” –@afroinstilletos
“…I just gave her the benefit of the doubt and Googled #JigabooMusic ummmm that’s REALLY bad!” –@981CHFI
“I’m not breaking out the pitchforks for that jigaboo comment but her saying she didn’t know is weak. You’re a news anchor. Words are your job.” –@DragonflyJonez
Twitter Rips News Anchor’s Apology for #JigabooMusic Comment which included an “I had no idea it was a word or what it meant” (C’mooon son!!!). The continued FAIL: You’re a news anchor using words you don’t know (?), not admitting wrongdoing, not clearing up/admitting intention, not even finding out what the word implied (if you want to stick to that story) and admitting your previous ignorance. Are we at the #ByeFelicia, #NiceTryJan stage? Is there anything to be salvaged here or are we at the Paula Deen level of unforgivable? The news anchor by the way, is a former Miss Missouri winner. Guess “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
