The talented pianist and slightly raspy crooner who once was on a quiet come-up with the G.O.O.D. Music mob is all grown up now, being about as vocal on social justice and ‘changing the system’ as he is on the now infamous “All of Me” record. He’s hit yet another milestone by temporarily shelving romantic songwriting to pen in the name of progress: John Legend Writes CNN Piece on Education Innovation & Breaking the Mold on traditional paths of what you’re “supposed to do” ie. graduate college and build a ‘stable’ career–something many can relate to!
Though John Legend Writes CNN Piece on Education Innovation & Breaking the Mold on standards, approaches and expectations, he’s far from the College Dropout he came in the game with. The op-ed piece for CNN reveals some candid details about his realizations on passion and pursuing what you really want out of life. He did graduate college and immediately started work at a consulting firm…but obviously the story took a plot twist.
“While I enjoyed the experience and learned a great deal, I couldn’t shake my passion for music. I had followed the somewhat predictable path of a college graduate, but I was obsessing over how to become an artist,” he wrote.
The dual purpose of John Legend Writes CNN Piece on Education Innovation & Breaking the Mold though was to shine a light on the latest philanthropic initiative Reimagine Learning by New Profit, a $30 million fund that’s partnered entertainment and education:
“The goal is to create more student-centered environments that help young people not just do better in school but also discover what they love.” Legend wrote. “It’s also why we need to break with the long-held expectation that schools exist to mold and manage kids.”
That’s definitely dope! The piece John Legend Writes CNN Piece on Education Innovation & Breaking the Mold is intriguing coming from him–who could have had a totally different career but decided to go ‘unpredictable.’ Since then he’s come miles ahead #ForTheWin, still rocking hits with the G.O.O.D fam, boycotting if not just helping out ‘the cause,’ singing national anthems and clocking a Golden Globe added to chart topping music success. Be sure to catch his upcoming performance with Common at the 2015 Oscars on the continued shine of “Selma,” and keep up with the nonprofit’s work!
