It’s hard to take an opinion seriously of someone who’s own son think’s he an idiot, let alone continuously spewing ridiculous comments despite being out of the prime time spotlight for years. Now the former talk show host and FOX News correspondent Geraldo Rivera Says Hip Hop Has Hurt More Black People Than Actual Racism…prompting a collective (SMH) and exhale from most! C’mon Geraldo…just stop.
Geraldo Rivera Says Hip Hop Has Hurt More Black People Than Actual Racism during an interview with HuffPost Live where he describes himself as a “militant moderate,” who voted for Barack Obama and loves Russell Simmons (whatever that’s supposed to do for his argument). He actually says Hip Hop culture has done more damage to black and brown people in the last 10 years than anything else one could name:
“And I love Russell Simmons,” Rivera continued. “He’s a dear friend of mine. I admire his business acumen. At some point, those guys have to cop to the fact that by encouraging this distinctive culture that is removed from the mainstream, they have encouraged people to be so different from the mainstream that they can’t participate other than, you know, the racks in the garment center and those entry-level jobs, and I lament it. I really do. I think that it has been very destructive culturally.”
The interviewer is actually stunned for a little bit after his flaming comments linked Obama, Simmons, rap music, Hip Hop culture, jobs, and sagging pants into some kind of propaganda for which successful black professionals should be ashamed. Geraldo Rivera Says Hip Hop Has Hurt More Black People Than Actual Racism and actually calls out Obama and Simmons for encouraging the praise of the now global-billion-dollar cultural, social, and political juggernaut that is Hip Hop…born from an impoverished people who were abandoned while “the Bronx was burning.”
River then challenged anyone to find a “a youngster — a Puerto Rican from the South Bronx or a black kid from Harlem who has succeeded in life other than being the one-tenth of one-tenth of one percent that make it in the music business — that’s been a success in life walking around with his pants around his ass and with visible tattoos…”
Wow. There may be half of a lucid point somewhere in his comments but really though, more damage than ACTUAL racism??? What do you think of Geraldo Rivera Says Hip Hop Has Hurt More Black People Than Actual Racism? Rant for attention, some truth–some delirium, valid and on point, or was this the ultimate on air REACH??? Geraldo had previously commented that “Rosa Parks should have just gone to the back of the bus,” and Trayvon Martin’s hoodie was just as much responsible for his death as Zimmerman was. Of course he can’t be too out of bounds right…he probably has some black friends.
