The injury filled era of Amar’e Stoudemire with the Knicks appears to be over. According to reports, just a little while ago he agreed to a buyout with the team. After the buyout, he will become eligible to sign with any team, and the Spurs, Mavs and possibly Warriors are all favorites to add the veteran for a playoff run.

A league source told the Daily News that Stoudemire and the Knicks formally reached a buyout prior to Sunday’s All Star Game and that the six-time All Star, who should clear waivers by Wednesday, could be in a new uniform by the time the league resume on Thursday.
Several teams in the Western Conference are expected to pursue Stoudemire, who would be a solid addition to a playoff team as a reserve. The Dallas Mavericks have already been mentioned as a possible destination. Two others clubs in the West that could be in the running are San Antonio and Golden State.
The amount of the buyout was not immediately known on the remainder of Stoudemire’s $23.4 million salary for this season. Playoff-bound teams such as the Mavericks and the Clippers are expected to be in the market for help up front.
Knicks fans always loved the passion Amar’e showed, and always worked hard for the city, unfortunately he spent too much time in street clothes on the sidelines with injuries. When he arrived in the big apple, there was a buzz and so much potential, but the pairing of him and Melo never really panned out and the franchise finds itself in dire straights.
Knicks fans should be happy Amar’e gets a chance to go play for a legit contender for the championship after all the work he put in while he was here.
