Everyone can agree the dunk contest during all star weekend has lost some of it’s luster due to the lack of star names taking part in the event and the fact that so many dunks have been done already so, it’s more and more difficult to get creative. With that said, I think we would all agree about wishing Russell Westbrook would take part, with his freakish athleticism and dunking power. We can dream, but Russ makes it clear it will never happen, but his reason is awesome!

Westbrook has actually be invited by the NBA to be a contestant in the dunk contest numerous times. Fans really could have used him over the past few years, but sadly we usually wind up disappointed with the night as a whole.
When asked flat out why doesn’t he want to participate, he gives us an answer we just can’t argue with.
Now with some players that would be a cop out type of answer because they just aren’t sure if they would win, but with Russell I actually believe him that he prefers to dunk on people opposed to nobody. The anger he attacks the rim with, combined with his hops and athleticism, would make alot of people think twice before getting in his way, but we have seen people try before and despite his smaller size, Russ usually ends it with a mean throw down.
