After a rough skid, the Cleveland Cavaliers bounced back winning 13 out of their past 14 games but all is not well in “The Land”. On Saturday, the day after the Pacers won 103-99 and snapped the Cavaliers 12-game winning streak, LeBron James sent out a tweet saying stop trying to “fit-out” and “fit-in”. It didn’t take long for people to realize he was talking about teammate Kevin Love, who scored just five-points in the game and used the term “fit-out” during the preseason.
“I’m comfortable and just not trying to, I guess, fit in so much,” Love said. “I had a talk with the guys on the plane ride over [to Brazil] and also at different practices off the floor and they told me to fit out, just be myself.”
At first James denied he was referencing Love, saying it was just about people in general. But after majority of the cameras and reporters left, LeBron James admits to the Cavs beat writers that the tweet wasn’t a coincidence.
When the beat writers pressed him James laughed and said, “It’s not a coincidence, man.”
James’ words towards Love weren’t malicious however. In fact during the Cavs 120-105 win over the Lakers on Sunday, LeBron looked for Love, with three of his eight assists going to him. “I drew up a few sets for him in the timeout when he had the hot hand,” James said. “I wanted to keep going to him.” Love finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists.
Love was oblivious to James’ tweet. He was the last to speak and Cavs beat writer Jason Lloyd showed him LeBron’s tweet and filled him in on James’ post-game comments. “I feel like I’ve done all the right things. I haven’t got upset or been down,” Love said. “There’s moments when I hope I would’ve played better but it’s a long, long season. I don’t know really what he’s talking about. I feel like I’ve sacrificed and I think everyone knows that. I’m not trying to downplay what he said, but I think I’ve done a pretty good job of trying to help this team.”
