Drake at Rap Battle Instead of Grammys

Drizzy might have been up for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at this year’s awards–but duty, culture, his hometown, (and money) called. Instead Drake Was at a Rap Battle During the 2015 Grammys, serving a number of roles for the famed Blackout 5 event, calling it “the best battle card of all time” and filling us in via Instagram!

Drake Was at a Rap Battle During the 2015 Grammys but not to much surprise, the Toronto native has been making his rounds in the battle circuit more heavily for a minute. While on one hand Drizzy hinted at the still in the air Murda Mook battle, saying he might if Mook “deserves” to battle him, he also responded to recent diss by Arsonal, and manned the entire event which featured 36 rappers and the main events of Shotty Horroh vs. Hitman Holla and Pat Stay vs. Charron.

Drake Was at a Rap Battle During the 2015 Grammys, enjoying and managing a few different responsibilities as artist, brand and businessman. For one, the OVO brand sponsored the King of the Dot event. And an even bigger two–the rapper-singer was delivering on a claim to pay the two winners of the major battles $10,000 each. He also served as host and a judge for the event, (not too shabby).

Do you think all this is a great alternative? Drake Was at a Rap Battle During the 2015 Grammys handling business and doing his part to keep battle culture alive–which still going strong on the underground has had its share of highs since the SMACK (Ultimate Rap League) come-up–(“follow the innovators not the imitators”). Many say this is just what the culture needs: diversity. Seems like a good trade off for suits, ties, keeping up appearances, media blitzes and the usual industry routine. Or nah? Where would you have been???
