Marvel Comics debuts all female Avengers Team called ‘A-Force.’ She-Hulk, Medusa, Dazzler and more will be among the one’s featured in the new title. Check out the photos in the gallery and read more on the story after the jump!

Marvel is debuting the all-female Avengers team called “A-Force” in order to bring in more girls and women into its male-dominated fan base. The book will not only feature some of Marvel’s well-known female heroes, but it will be written by two of Marvel’s female comic book writers. Marguerite K. Bennett and Willow Wilson are the two Marvel female comic book writers who wrote the book ‘A-Force.’ Wilson, who is a comic book writer in Seattle, helped break the barrier in 2013 with “Ms. Marvel,” which is about a Muslim female superhero. She said that women were rarely the focus of superhero teams in comic books and that they are usually in the role of a “damsel in distress” or “girlfriend”. She also states that “A-Force” will change that. Wilson said, “I think that we’re kind of asking some implicit questions with this lineup and one of them is: Do we respond to female superhero teams in the same way that we respond to superhero teams composed primarily or entirely of men?…So it is a bit of a risk, but it’s a risk that’s been shown to work.”
‘A-Force’ will be apart of Marvel’s 14 other female-led books, such as “Ms. Marvel” and “Captain Marvel,” which is scheduled to become a Marvel movie. DC Comics also has many female leads, like Wonder Woman, the longest-running comic book with a female hero, Catwoman, Batgirl, and Batwoman. A-Force will feature the characters like She-Hulk, Dazzler and Medusa, and a new hero called Singularity. Many of the stories will have the same journey as like superheros Batman and Spider-Man but they will be told from a female point of view.
Wilson goes on to say, “There’s a big push … to have that same kind of recognizable, really enduring storytelling that appeals — not just to women readers but to men as well — and that reflects that same journey, that same coming of age, that same struggle that we all identify with through the eyes of female characters…And while the majority of comic book buyers are male, millennials and Generation Xers are becoming more accepting of stories told from different points of view…In the past, when you had teams that were composed entirely of men and with maybe one woman, that was considered something very usual but to do the reverse was somehow unthinkable…We’re at a time now where we can ask why that is.” ‘A-Force’ will debut in May. Marvel’s X-Men #1, which comes out May 29th, is featuring an all female X-Men lineup as well.
