Another blow to the #BlackLivesMatter movement and anyone keeping up with social justice news, as the Charges Dropped on Cop Who Shot Sleeping 7 Year Old #AiyanaJones from Detroit.
After two attempts bringing the case to trial the judge has decided not to let the third move forward and the Charges Dropped on Cop Who Shot Sleeping 7 Year Old. Detroit police officer Joseph Weekley has been cleared–no involuntary manslaughter, no misdemeanor, nothing.
“Two trials against Officer Joseph Weekley ended without verdicts on a charge of reckless use of a gun. During the second trial, Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway dismissed the most serious charge, involuntary manslaughter, saying there was insufficient evidence.”
Charges Dropped on Cop Who Shot Sleeping 7 Year Old and to refresh, this is the result of the botched police raid into a home where Aiyana Stanley-Jones slept soundly in her bed. She was the fatal victim of an alleged struggle between her grandmother and gun wielding Weekley who says he accidentally pulled the trigger, though the grandmother still denies grabbing the weapon:
“Weekley shot Aiyana Stanley-Jones as she slept on a couch in a Detroit home in 2010. It occurred during a frenzied raid by elite officers who burst through the door to search for a murder suspect after throwing a flash grenade to confuse anyone inside. A reality TV crew recorded the scene from the street.”
Wow, SMH. Many continue to be appalled at the justice system “devaluing black lives.” Judge Hathaway insisted she’s not at fault for the juries’ decisions, but said “if you need a scapegoat, put it on me.” Aiyana’s family told press outside the court room, “she is not a scapegoat, she’s irresponsible.” You can only imagine what the Jones family is going through on top of the loss of their innocent baby girl.
Positive thoughts, and RIP.
