Ms. Alakija, a Nigerian fashion designer and oil tycoon has the record for the richest black woman in the whole wide world! How exactly did the 63 year old get her start? I’ll take you down memory lane right quick. She started a an executive secretary at Aijuade Enterprises in her hometown of Lagos, Nigeria. Alakija had her eyes on the prize and moved on to BIGGER and BETTER things. She transitioned into the fashion world with her line Supreme Stitches and then put her foot into the oil and printing industry. In 1993 is when everything seemed to sky rocket for her. Alakija’s company, Famfa Limited applied for an oil and allocating license which granted them access to find oil on a 617,000 acre block which is now called OPL 216.
Not only did she pass Oprah by far, but also Africa’s 1st woman billionaire and her predecessor, Isabel Dos Santos. Forbes ranked her as the 96th most powerful woman in the world because of her philanthropy work. Even though she has mooooonay, she’s very humble and doesn’t let her coins define who she is.
“I have been referred to as “One of Forbes’ 100 Most Influential Women in the World….But, who do I say I am and who does God say I am? Regarding wealth only God knows that because he is the only one who knows by how much he blesses each of his creations. He decides, he uplifts or lowers for reasons best known to him and in his time. So, who am I to determine my position?”
This is so awesome! Black women getting it!
