Oprah Winfrey and the filmmakers of ‘Selma will march on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. day, as a homage to the events that were shown in the film. Oprah Winfrey, David Oyelowo, and the director of ‘Selma’ Ava DuVernay, Common, and producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, will be among those who will participate in the march in Selma, Alabama for the civil rights icon. The film’s studio Paramount Pictures announced the news.

The film ‘Selma’ showed Martin Luther King Jr.’s battle for voting rights and how he and his team held a march in Selma, Alabama in order to bring awareness to the issue. Other events that will occur during the festivities on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday include Alabama Congresswoman Terri Sewell moderating a panel discussion with the film’s cast and filmmakers at Selma High School, and two free screenings of the movie ‘Selma’ at a local theater. The ‘Selma’ event will be held just days after the President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama host a screening of the film at the White House.
