The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t content with a throw away season, apparently they’re still working the phones trying to make a trade happen. They failed to land Rajon Rondo but are still in the market for a point guard.
via ESPN senior writer Ramona Shelburne:
As for Lakers, they have been very active since 12/15. Made calls on Waiters, Jennings, Monroe. Asst GM Glen Carraro is working the phones.
Well Dion Waiters is off the table since he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. As for Brandon Jennings and Greg Monroe, the Detroit Pistons are on an incredible run right now, I don’t see why they would trade anyone and mess that up.
Playing for the Lakers would be a dream come true for Jennings however. The Los Angeles native has made no secret that he grew up a Lakers fan and idolizes Kobe Bryant. Jennings, Nick Young and Kobe on the same team just seems like entertainment for the ages.
As for Monroe, the Lakers would use this season to try and entice him to re-sign with the team.
As for winning, the Lakers have unreasonable hopes of making the playoffs. For once I’ll have to agree with Magic Johnson; The Lakers’ best course is to tank enough to keep the top-five protected pick they owe the Suns.
