Practically everyone knows at this point that Carmelo Anthony needs to shut it down for the season and get surgery on his injured knee.  Now it looks like he’s finally coming around and realizing it too.

Phil Jackson, Derek Fisher and the Knicks organization has encouraged Anthony to shut it down and, if needed, get the surgery now. Anthony has said he wants to rest and it is expected he’ll try to gut it out through at least the All-Star Game where he is on track to be voted in a starter at Madison Square Garden.

Carmelo Anthony said he’s “pretty sure at some point” surgery will be the only option to repair his injured knee.  Carmelo says “the easiest thing for me to do” is to shut it down now. But “if I have an opportunity to go play I’m going to go play.”  Carmelo says he wants to be involved in recruiting FAs this summer: “This is why i wanted to come back, to be a part of the plan.”

I can see why he wants to at least make it to All Star weekend.  The games are in New York, his hometown and hosted by his team.  It would be disappointing if he couldn’t participate.  But after that… shut it down!
