Oscar Grant was a young black man killed by the BART Police in Oakland – where Keyshia is originally from. After getting a call of disturbance on New Year’s 2009, police showed up on then scene of a train station platform where they detained Grant and a few other gentleman. The highly publicized event was caught on camera and showed police shoot in the back a handcuffed Grant. If this sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the real-life version on the award winning movie, Fruitvale Station.
Although the events taken place were caught on camera, the grand jury presiding in the case decided that Oscar Grant’s father was not due any compensation (Again, does it sound familiar?), which is one of the many reasons the foundation was formed.
The OGFoundation is committed to upholding the legacy of Oscar Grant III, by being a resource for at-risk youth of all races who wish to turn their lives around in a positive way.
