Small updates are leaking from both camps and it appears that some movement is being made towards making the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight happen. If anything, at least they’re talking…
Last month, Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum was very adamant about Saul “Canelo” Alvarez deserving the Cinco De Mayo date of May 2nd. He felt Floyd Mayweather Jr. was “poaching” the lucrative date from the Mexican fighters. Canelo and Mayweather are having a tug of war over the May date.
But Arum’s star fighter, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, has no problem fighting Mayweather on May 2. Arum had previously suggested a potential pay-per-view date in April or June for Mayweather-Pacquiao.
Pacquiao told ABS-CBN News – “Of course if he wanted the May 2 date, that is no problem,” Pacquiao said. “It’s beautiful that we’re talking now. We’ve never had that before.”
Negotiations are ongoing to make Mayweather-Pacquiao. Arum is discussing the terms with CBS CEO Les Moonves, who claims he can deliver Mayweather. CBS is the parent company of Showtime, who have Mayweather under an exclusive contract.
More movement behind the scenes and less posturing on Twitter and Instagram. At this point, fans are tired of the back and forth and just want the fight to happen.
