ESPN’s Skip Bayless has said some crazy things over the years and it’s basically how he built his popularity. Some people however felt he went too far when he said Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has a drinking problem and needs to seek help. ESPN released a statement and surprisingly backed Skip rather than issuing an apology as they usually do when other reporters say something outlandish.
ESPN defends Skip Bayless in this press release:
“When discussing the widely reported public behavior, Skip based his comments on information he has from sources within and around the Browns’ organization with knowledge of Manziel’s continued pattern of behavior, as well as Skip’s personal family experiences with alcoholism.”
Manziel is a professional quarterback but he’s also 22-years old and likes to party. In fact, his heavy partying has been well documented dating back to his days in college and may be the reason he slipped in the NFL Draft. He performed very poorly during his short time on the field for the Browns so that hasn’t helped his case. Usually if you play well people tend to excuse practically everything you do off-the-field, so if Manziel wants everyone off his back he’s going to have to turn things around.
