The Boston Celtics have traded 6’1 point guard, Rajon Rondo, to the Dallas Mavericks for Brandon Wright, Jameer Nelson, Jae Crowder & 2 future picks. The deal is set to be FINAL no later than tonight, more info after the jump…
It seems like all of the trade talk & rumors will finally cease after tonight…
The Celtics have agreed to send Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks, according to a report by ESPN. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports also reports that the trade is agreed upon.
According to the ESPN report, Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, and Jameer Nelson will be traded to the Celtics, along with a future first- and second-round draft pick.
Though the trade is not yet official, sources told ESPN that the deal will be completed by the end of the night.
There has been much speculation regarding the overall value of Rondo as a player, as the Celtics were looking for an all-star player in turn for Rondo leaving Boston. However, after a torn ACL injury, Rajon Rondo has just not been the same.
He’s a four-time All-Star, but he hasn’t been the same player he was before suffering a torn ACL in 2013. This year, he’s leading the league in assists at 10.8 per game but shooting an atrocious 33.3 percent from the foul line and scoring just 8.3 points per game.
It doesn’t make a lot of sense for Rondo to be part of the Celtics’ long-term future, considering they drafted Marcus Smart sixth overall and re-signed Avery Bradley to a four-year deal. The point guard position is so deep around the league that it’s hard to put Rondo in the category of the NBA’s elite players at the position anymore. If there’s any time to trade him, it’s now.
And of course, sports and twitter worlds are going bananas over the trade getting ready to go down…*peep the tweets in gallery above from some A-List sports names*
