Chicago Bears Martellus Bennett chimed in on the teams losing season, stating it’s result of “lack of passion” by the team. via The Chicago Tribune:
Tight end Martellus Bennett was asked late Monday night why the offense continues to be so unhinged.
“Unhinged?” Bennett replied. “I don’t know if unhinged is a good term.”
“I guess you could use that word,” Bennett continued. “Overall, I think it’s rhythm. We don’t really have a flow or a rhythm. I think there are some positions on the team that need to step up with leadership and things like that around the club. Overall, I just feel like we need passion to come from certain places. And I don’t think the passion is always there all the time. Overall, it just hasn’t been there.”
Asked who was missing the passion, Bennett stopped short of naming names.
“Several people,” he said. “I don’t really get into the name thing. They know who they are.”
While Bennett’s comments were taken as thrown shade, especially by QB Jay Cutler, the Bears’ tight end goes on to describe his current team state with an analogy…
Asked why the Bears can’t find the light, Bennett shrugged.
“I think everybody’s searching,” he said. “But we don’t know where that switch is. We’re like touching on the wall, feeling on the wall. You turn on some lights but some lights don’t come on. A light bulb isn’t working. You have no idea … But at the end of the day, it’s just like fumbling against the wall and trying to find the switch and it’s not clicking on for everybody.”
