Mothers of Slain Boys Do Interview Together;
As we all may know the rage of social injustices against the black community have been all the talk in recent months. Due to the limelight being shed on the back to back deaths of unarmed African American men and boys in this nation.

In 2012 17 year old unarmed Trayvon Martin died in Florida when he was shot and killed by the neighborhood “watchman” George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was acquitted of second degree murder and manslaughter.

This past August unarmed 18 year old Mike Brown died in Ferguson, Mo. in an altercation with police officer Darren Wilson. Who reportedly shot and killed Brown, although he held his hands up in surrender. A grand jury voted not to indict Wilson in November.

In July, 43 year old Eric Garner died after a NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo placed him in a prohibited chokehold, a death the medical examiner concluded as homicide. And although the incident was recorded on video, a grand jury decided not to indict Pantaleo, sparking new wave of protests inspired by the last words spoken by Garner “I can’t breathe.” Which he was reportedly said 11 times before his death.

Last month 12-year-old Tamir Rice was killed in a Cleveland park when a police car pulled up and shot him, and according to a Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s autopsy report his death was ruled as homicide.

Can you see the pattern?

In their first interview together, All four mothers, Sybrina Fulton, (mother of Trayvon Martin), Lesley McSpadden (mother of Mike Brown), Samaria Rice (mother of Tamir Rice); and, Gwen Carr (mother of Eric Garner). Relived the final moments of their son’s lives. And as they each spoke on the horrific and tragic deaths of each of their sons, they also shared their thoughts on the common denominator in each case, that being racism.

“I think absolutely my son’s race and the color of his skin had a lot to do with why he was shot and killed,” Sybrina Fulton, Martin’s mother, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Friday. “In all of these cases, these victims were unarmed. These victims were African-American. That needs to be our conversation.”

“If Eric Garner was a white man in Suffolk County doing the same thing that he was doing — even if he would have been caught selling cigarettes that day — they would have given him a summons and he wouldn’t have lost his life that day,” she said. “I believe that 100 percent.”

Fulton on White America understanding the pain of the black community due to racism, police brutality, and excessive force.

“It’s not happening to them, so they don’t quite get it… They don’t quite understand. They think that it’s a small group of African-Americans that’s complaining… The people say that all the time: ‘What are they complaining about now? What are they protesting about now?

Until it happens to them and in their family then they’ll understand the walk. They don’t understand what we’re going through. They don’t understand the life and they don’t understand what we’re fighting against. I don’t even think the government quite gets it.”

Let’s talk about it. RACISM the elephant in the room that will continue to bear it’s ugly head if ignored. We live in a nation that cries out justice and liberty, however these messages do not ring true in the communities of African Americans. Racism is indeed alive and until we begin to discuss this issue as well as the root of it which I personally believe is fear. We will all continue to suffer. But let us not preach to the choir, instead let us talk to the very ones who seem to be unaware of the issues facing the black community. Share your thoughts below.
