On Sunday night the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Detroit Pistons 96-94 but before the game started OKC star and reigning MVP Kevin Durant had some other business to take care of. Durant made it a very special night for a kid who went through something devastating.
via ESPN:
Shortly before Thanksgiving, according to a Detroit-area news station, 13-year-old Anthony Cupp was walking home wearing new Kevin Durant shoes he had saved up to buy.
He was jumped by an older kid. The shoes were stolen off his feet. Cupp was devastated.
But on Sunday, when the Oklahoma City Thunder visited the Detroit Pistons, Cupp got a new pair. A signed pair. From Durant himself. Kevin Durant gives Anthony autographed sneakers and more.
“He was real nervous,” Durant told The Oklahoman. “Same thing I would have been if I met my favorite NBA player back then. I was just trying to make him feel as comfortable as possible.”
The moment happened thanks to both teams, with the Pistons inviting the Cupps to the game and coordinating the meeting with the Thunder.
“It’s been crazy,” Cupp’s mother, Janiesa, said. “These kind of things never happen to us.”
