During the Cleveland Cavaliers game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, starting quarterback Brian Hoyer was struggling so Browns head coach Mike Pettine decided to finally give Johnny Manziel a shot. Manziel’s first drive was successful as he led the Browns on an eight-play, 80-yard touchdown. His second drive however nearly ended in catastrophe. With the Browns facing 3rd-and-6 on their own 18-yard line with just three minutes remaining, Cleveland’s center snapped the ball before Manziel was ready. The rookie quarterback attempted to limit the damage by throwing the ball away, but it bounced off a Bills defender and was recovered in the end zone by Buffalo. Manziel, meanwhile, stayed on his back in the end zone after getting trucked. The play was initially ruled a fumble and a touchdown, but after review, it was ruled an incomplete pass. The Browns lost to the Bills 26-10. Pettine hasn’t decided who will be the starting quarterback for the next game but LeBron James says Johnny Manziel is ready to go.
via CBS Sports:
“I know he’s ready to go. I talked to him. He’s ready to go. He’s still learning. He’s a rookie, he’s still learning. When the coach is ready to give him the nod he’ll be ready to go,” James said. “But he’s going to have some bumps and bruises just like any other rookie quarterback would have or any other player in the NFL would have or any other player in any professional sport. I’m one of his biggest supporters.
“He’s part of the family so of course I want him out there. But that’s for Coach to decide.”
Johnny Manziel is represented by LeBron James’ long time friend Maverick Carter and they’re pretty close so clearly he wants Manziel in the game. Brian Hoyer has been playing quite well but the fans still want to see Johnny. We’ll have to wait and see who Pettine picks.
