With the success of Teyana Taylor’s album ‘VII’, it was only right that XXL caught up with the songstress to see how she was taking it all in. Taylor details how it was working with artists like Chris Brown & Fabolous, and the challenges she faced while recording the debut album which entered at #1 on the R&B charts. Congratulations to her. Read the interview in it’s entirety after the jump.

Q:  Congratulations on the album.  You had some awesome collaborators, so tell me what it was like working with Chris Brown.

It was amazing.  It was like being at home because that’s like my brother.  So at the moment I told him, ‘let’s do this record together.’  We got in the studio, we vibed out immediately.  The record was done in 2.5 seconds and that’s how you got “Do Not Disturb.”

Q: Who were some of the other collaborators that you want to shout out on the album?

Fabolous of course on “Broken Hearted Girl.”  He absolutely bodied that record.

And then you got your guy Pusha T, which I already know you heard that.  That’s absolutely amazing.  I am so lucky for all the features that I had.  I wanted to keep it very minimum.  I didn’t want to do a feature filled album because this is my first album and I wanted to make sure it had as much of me as possible.

Q: Any challenges working through it?

You have challenges every single day. Trying to make sure it’s right.  Trying to make master mixes.  When it is time to regular mix it.  When you decide which number each song is going to be.  All types of stuff.  It is always difficult but at the end it works out.

Teyana Taylor (L) and basketball player Iman Shumpert attend The New York Premiere Of Relativity Media's 'Beyond the Lights' on November 13, 2014 in New York City sponsored by Absolut.

Q:  Are you headed on tour next?  What’s coming up next?

Of course.  Stay tuned.
