Ten years ago tonight the infamous “Malice at the Palace” took place during the Detroit Pistons game against the Indiana Pacers. It’s the major brawl that shocked the sports world and brought about a number of changes to the NBA, fan conduct policies and the lives of the players, fans and officials involved.
This is the craziest altercation to take place during an NBA game and it all started with a not-so hard foul on Ben Wallace. It happened in 2004 at the Auburn Hills Palace in Michigan. There was less than a minute left in the game when Ron Artest committed a foul on Ben Wallace. Wallace then violently pushed Artest which led to an altercation. It was finally beginning to be broken up when a fan threw a cup filled with liquid at Artest and all HELL broke loose. Jermaine O’Neal also delivered the punch heard ’round the world.
